Best Places on the Big Island / Hilo Side / Hamakua Coast
Aloha Everyone: Here’s to another wonderful “Aloha Friday”…
time to relax/unwind and enjoy the Weekend. Aloha All!
Next time you’re on the Big Island, don’t forget to pop
over to the other side of the Island. Most people just stay in
Kona Area – but the Hilo side/East Sure is a gorgeous spot.
Drive over from Kona – about 2 hours – and make a wonderful
day trip. Start out in Hilo town…and then enjoy a magnificent 45
mile Journey, on the most Tropical and Lush side of the island.
This is known as the “Hamakua Coastline”. Don’t miss..
Hear are some of the highlights…take your time and enjoy:
A. Akaka Falls: About 15 miles north of Kona, this is the larges
Waterfall in the islands. Plunging down approx. 420 Feet.
A leisurely 15 minute walk in Akaka Falls Park to the falls. Aloha!
B. Honka’a Town: Enjoy this ‘old Hawaii’ town, with some great
boutique shops, restaurants and general store. Experience Hawaii
the way the island used to be. This is the major town to be found
on the Hilo side of the island, past Hilo. Aloha!
C Hawaii Botanical Tropical Gardens:
This is an awesome garden with some of the
most magnificent plants and trees in islands. Take
some time to explore, it won’t disappoint! 5 minutes
from Hilo Town
D Waipio Valley Lookout
This is the former home to Hawaiian Royalty,
an absolutely stunning Spot. Features a Black Sand beach
framed by towering Cliffs. Great Picnic spot
Rental cars not allowed – hike of horseback
down to the valley for an unforgettable adventure!
D. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park:
The Number one attraction on the Big Island…witness
Kilauea volcano, currently dormant but the lava is still
flowing. Don’t get too close to the edges of the park.
